Matthew Link Chief Deputy at the Henderson County Sheriff's office, is making his announcement that he is seeking the position of Sheriff in the upcoming election.
In a press release he sent to The Quill Matthew addresses the "Citizens of Henderson County: I, Matthew Link, would like to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Henderson County in the 2022 election.
I have lived in Henderson County my entire life and graduated from Southern High School in 1999. From there, I attended Southeastern Community College where I received a degree in Political Science.
I have spent the last 21 years working at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, starting as a dispatcher and a jailer.
I was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and graduated from the University of Illinois Police Academy in December of 2002. Since then I have taken on many roles, including Detective and Chief Deputy.
I have worked under Sheriff Seitz and retired Sheriff Haynes as Chief Deputy and both of them tasked me with taking on a larger leadership role within the department.
I am proudly married to my wife Rabeka and together we have raised two children, Zac (21) and Addy (18).
I have helped coach the West Central Middle and High School football teams.
I am Deputy Coroner for Henderson County under Kris Beals and I have spent my adulthood volunteering for the MST and Biggsville Fire Departments.
I enjoy helping my family and friends on their farms when I am not working.
I am running for Sheriff because I believe that I can continue to steer the department in the right direction. Along with Sheriff Seitz, I have added key pieces of technology to help assist the work of my employees.
I also have an extensive knowledge of the budget and the issues that this county faces moving forward. I believe that we need to continue to keep our citizens safe, while maintaining a level of professionalism that our community can be proud of.
I also believe in transparency and keeping the public involved with current events that involve the department.
Overall, I want to lead by example and show up with a positive work ethic everyday.
I have been fully endorsed by both retired Sheriff Steven Haynes and by Sheriff Donald Seitz and I congratulate him on his much deserved retirement.
Link is running on the ballot as a Republican in the June 28th Primary Election.
