Meet Your Neighbor

by Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

Meet your neighbor Ali Ostrowski (Dr. O) and new dentist at Eagle View Community Health System, Inc. at the Oquawka Clinic. She was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago but now resides in Burlington, Iowa.

Her parents live in the Chicago suburbs where her dad is about to retire from working as a physician.

She has grandparents that live in Indiana, where here grandpa used to work as a detective in Gary, IN.

Her other grandma owned a hair salon in LaSalle and her grandpa played for the Washington Redskins and was a U.S. veteran.

Ali has an older sister who is finishing a fellowship in pediatric intensive care in Milwaukee, WI.

Her younger brother was an EMT in central Indiana and is now starting a nursing program at Loyola University Chicago in Downers Grove. "I’m proud of them both!" she says. In high school, Ali was on the soccer team, and in college, she was involved in river restorations and researching the spread of invasive plant species.

Ali said, “In dental school, I was really focused on school and didn’t do much except study A LOT and ask the older dentists as many questions as I could."

She worked as a chemist in a flavor lab, creating flavors for coffee creamers, pop, and other flavored foods. After dental school, she was the dentist for a driving union in Milwaukee, WI.

Ali said, “I loved both jobs and all the people I met along the way!”

In her free time, she enjoys reading Stephen King novels, playing board games with her family, taking walks with her Aussie, and trying out new pizza places!

Her grandma is really into playing the slot machines so almost every Thanksgiving, her family has a tradition of meeting in Vegas to all spend time together, eat some delicious buffet food, and hit the slots as a family! She hasn’t had much luck so far, but her grandma and aunts always seem to win big!

Ali plans on staying in the area for a while to get to know the community better and continue to grow in her profession and be the best dentist she can be.

When asked what her favorite quote was, Ali stated:

“In every situation, no matter what first appears. Find the good that is always there, and change that fear to cheer.” — Julie Hebert

Dr. O says, preventive treatment is the cheapest and most valuable dental service. Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste every morning and night to prevent cavities from growing. Floss your teeth daily to prevent gum disease. Get an exam/cleaning at least every 6 months to catch problems when they are small. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or get a second opinion.

It’s never too late to start taking care of your oral health!
