By: Michael Rodeffer, Quill Reporter

At the January 24th meeting the La Harpe City Council unanimously approved a bid of $1,650 from Brock Richardson to take down two trees on the city right-of-way.

The La Harpe Council also unanimously approved the cemetery mowing bid from Jamie Hallowell of $11,300 per year for a two year period.

The council discussed raising the hourly rate for the part-time police officer from $17.25 to $18.00 per hour, given his experience. The council unanimously approved the raise to $18.00 per hour.

The council also approved the treasurer’s report and paying of bills.

Tim Graves informed the council that EPA wants the lagoon at the old water plant to be dug up and the sludge taken to a disposal site.

Graves also stated that he needed to log more training hours to update his sewer license. Graves said there was a conference in Effingham in February. It would be a 2 day session with a one night stay for $170. The council felt this would be a good opportunity for him to go.

Quotes for the demolition of property at 116 E Main, 118 E Main, and 109 S Center Streets are to be on the agenda for the next council meeting, February 14th.

The council is planning on discussing the hiring of another part-time police officer at their next meeting.

A proposed easement for transmission lines along some of the city rural properties will be discussed also at the next meeting.

Council adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
