La Harpe Council Approves Street Repairs

by: Michael Rodeffer, The Quill

At the August 8th meeting the La Harpe City Council approved the bid of $289,641.00 from W. L. Miller Company to refurbish several of the streets in town.

Some streets will just be oiled and chipped and a few of the rougher streets will be ground up and relaid and sealed.

W. L. Miller Company was the only bid received by the city. IMEG engineering firm recommended the city approve the contract with W. L. Miller.

The engineer’s estimate for the job was $239,094. The bid was 21.14% higher than the engineer’s estimate due to fuel and material costs on the rise.

Due to the higher cost the La Harpe Council had to approve a supplemental resolution from motor fuel funds to cover the extra $44,422.88. Council unanimously approved the resolution.

Council noted some streets could be closed for 4 hours and up to 24 hours depending on the extent of the repairs.

Council will try to inform residents ahead of the time about the closures.

More on the council meeting next week.
