LH Mayor Recognizes Clover and Shumaker for help at Basketball Court Dedication and Tournament

At the La Harpe City Council meeting on Monday, July 25th, Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed thanked Dave Clover for organizing and conducting a dedication ceremony for the newly refurbished basketball court. Mayor Reed also thanked Randy Shumaker for helping with the 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the city park allowing a fantastic stress-free recreational event for many kids and their families. There were 28 teams and 52 games that brought a large amount of people to town for the day.

Council discussed allowing food trucks in the city park. Council tabled this until the next meeting.

Tim Graves informed the council that the lift station pump was repaired under warranty but there would be a charge if the company delivered it. Graves was going to find out what their delivery charge would be.

Council approved replacing the water meter at the Christian Church at an approximate cost of $750.00

Council voted unanimously to terminate the contract with Civic Plus. Civic Plus was supposed to provide weather alerts. According to council member Kelly Harkey, Civic Plus never worked for all the first year.

Council discussed removing the barricade at 4th street and 2nd Avenue. Council tabled the matter until they obtained more information.

Brian Covert asked the council to discuss the possibility of deer hunting inside city limits. It was discussed hunting at the Reservoir or Cemetery. Covert said other cities allowed bow hunting. No action was taken at this time.

After meeting with Tim Gladu in executive session, the Council approved hiring Tim Gladu as a part-time police officer for $16 per hour.

Treasurer Graves reported the auditors will be here August 18-19. The Council approved the Treasurers' report and paying of bills.

The Council also discussed removing garbage, and cooking oil clean-up at the Travelers Diner in La Harpe which is now closed.
