At the Village of Stronghurst board meeting Monday, April 4th, Amanda Jack, representing the Stronghurst Booster Club, requested permission to hold a Farmer’s Market in Stronghurst, two Mondays a month during May, June, July, August, and September.
They requested to have it along Broadway Street from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and also requested the street be blocked from traffic from Fisher’s drive to the corner, during these hours. The board unanimously approved the request.
Police report for March: 30 hours worked; 150 squad car miles; 1 traffic stop with verbal warning; 5 service calls; 18 business checks.
Police Chief Arbry Vancil announced he had filled out the papers to run for Henderson County Sheriff.
Carrie Todd leader of the Girl Scout Troop of fourth and fifth grade girls approached the board in regards to planting a tree for Earth Day in the Stronghurst Village Park. After much discussion she was given permission to work with Ronnie Gittings and they could plant a tree in the Northwest corner of the park.
Virginia Ross asked why Memorial trees could not be planted along the boulevard since so many Ash trees have been cut down. Mayor Brendan Schaley responded, "because as they get larger the roots tear up the sidewalks".
Randy Jarvis, head of the park committee, reported a Curly-Q slide will cost between $10,000 and $15,000 to replace the old one. Much discussion was held as to how money could be raised for this to be done, with no decisions made. Jarvis will bring back more exact figures and plans to the next board meeting.
In other business the board:
On a motion by Shane Reed, seconded by Janice Smith the board entered Executive Session for the purpose of employee compensation.
