The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Kris Pilkington was first elected Hancock Treasurer in 2002 and will seek her sixth term in 2022.
Pilkington has an accounting degree. “My accounting degree and the 40 years of accounting experience behind me is very beneficial to the office,” explained Kris.
She was an advocate for the first Hancock County website which is now up and running. “The yearly county audits and financial reports are available for the public to view on the website,” added Kris.
The website also gives the public the the ability to inquire about property tax information and pay online. “It is easy for property owners and title searchers to look up information 24/7 thanks to the website,” explained Pilkington.
Kris’s office is always available during office hours to assist with any questions the public may have. “I am very grateful for a great office staff that is top-notch in service and knowledge,” added Kris.
Kris’s office also has a good working relationship with all the county offices and the county board, which is very beneficial to being able to do a good job for the county and her constituents.
During her tenure in office, Kris earned Certified County Official status through continuing education. “I feel that life is a learning experience and a process of gaining knowledge,” stated Kris. “I am always looking for ways to improve the office and to automate functions whenever possible to better serve the county.”
Kris has also added payment of taxes in the office with a credit or debit card, along with internet and IVR payments over the phone. She has added more accounts to the computer system that were being done by hand, and with help from the County Board has saved time and money by centralizing the payroll for the county.
“I have been able to save the county thousands by outsourcing tax bill printing and mailing, and by direct depositing all taxing body distribution checks and payroll checks when possible,” added Kris.
She works closely with the County Board and the Finance Committee, preparing reports and gathering information needed for budget analysis and compliance with State statutes. Tax distributions are being made within a week after due dates, and all distributions are made within the same fiscal year to give a true financial picture to the County Board and the auditor. Different entities are given monthly reports on their financial and budget position, along with a current funds available report. A report is given to the county board each month showing the dollar amount the State of Illinois is behind on tax payments and salary reimbursement checks.
Kris and her husband, Rick, have been married for 32 years and have three children, Rachel, Seth and Jacob. They are also blessed with four grandchildren, Brody, Skylar, Rylee and Rhett. Kris and Rick are both life-long residents of Hancock County. Kris is very involved in community projects and is dedicated to the citizens of Hancock County.
“I truly love my job and serving the citizens of Hancock County,” stated Pilkington. “I hope to be given the privilege and honor of continuing my service to the county for another four years.”
