This year, the Illini West High School is proud to announce the 2021 Illini West Grand Marshal for the parade is Mrs. Susan Holtsclaw, the Business Teacher at Illini West.
Suzy Holtsclaw grew up on a farm north of Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School where she participated as a four sport athlete.
Mrs. Holtsclaw graduated from Western Illinois University in three years with a degree in Business Education and started teaching in 1987 at Southeastern High School.
Mrs. Holtsclaw also taught at Carthage High School, LaHarpe High School, and, of course, Illini West High School where she currently teaches in the same room as her mentor Mrs. Roma Lee Hart. It was in this same classroom as a student Mrs. Holtsclaw made her life's decision to become a Business Teacher.
During her tenure, Mrs. Holtsclaw has enjoyed being a sponsor of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization for over 25 years and has traveled with her FBLA students to California, Georgia, Texas, Washington D.C., and Florida.
Additionally, Mrs. Holtsclaw has also been class sponsor for many classes over the years. Mrs. Holtsclaw and her husband, Tom, live south of Carthage and have three grown sons, Lance (wife Augusta), Jesse (wife Darcy), and Christian (wife Bailey).
They are proud grandparents to Colt, Decklyn, Chandler Holtsclaw; and just last week their fourth grandchild Cohen Holtsclaw was born.
