The Stronghurst Fall Festival Is Set for This Saturday

by Dessa Rodeffer - Quill Publisher/Owner

Everyone involved with the Fall Festival is very busy, finishing up items to make this year's 2021 Fall Festival, the best one yet. Around sixty vendors have signed up to display at the park and they are all busy getting ready for the event.

Some are cleaning out items from their homes, garages, and basements, getting ready for the city-wide yard sales.

Others are polishing up their cars, and tractors getting ready for the car and tractor show that will be on Main Street. The Stronghurst Booster Club members have been delivering bales of straw to businesses to decorate.

They have also been busy taking care of orders for the big beautiful mums which will be picked up on Thursday, Sept. 16th at Weaver, IA. There were 198 mums pre-ordered this year and Booster members are getting 50 extra to sell at the Fall Festival.

The pre-ordered mums can be picked up Friday, Sept. 17 at Bob's TV between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or they may be picked up at the Fall Festival on Saturday.

The Lions will be setting up for breakfast at the Legion Hall which will be served from 6:30-10:30 a.m.

Shelly Gittings has been really busy coordinating the event and now finalizing plans. She has ordered all food, condiments, and paper products.

The menu will include: pulled pork, hotdogs, nachos, macho nachos, taco in a bag, chips, caramel apples.

Set-up will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the park. Food will start being served at 10:30 a.m. with the festival running until 3:00 p.m. and she could sure use your help.

Volunteers reaching out to help Shelly with set-up, concessions, or clean-up, even for an hour would help as many hands make work easier. Also, volunteers are needed to help serve food during the festival. If you can help, please just reach out to Shelly or email Christine Deverell, secretary of the Booster Club. Christine's email is:

StronghurstBoosterClub@gmail.com.

Christine reports that the Booster Club meetings will be held from now on at the Stronghurst Legion instead of the Village Hall.

The next meeting will be Monday October 11th at 4:30 p.m.. All village residents are welcome to come and join the Boosters to help promote Stronghurst.

Those attending the September 13th meeting were:

Christine Deverell, Shelly Gittings, Melinda Whiteman, Jim Blender, Lori Taylor, Donna Painter, Char Fisher, Jade Parker, Judi Rink, Heather Hernandez, Sara Lefler, and Rachael Gipe.

The Christmas walk/parade were discussed and next year's Fall Festival was approved for September 17th and Shelly voluntered to reserve the park.
