Carthage Kiwanis Club recognizes Pete Dowdall, Farm Family of the Year

The Carthage Kiwanis Club recognized the Farm Family of the Year during the Agriculture Appreciation Dinner on Monday, August 23 at Lake Hill Winery, Carthage. This prestigious award was given to Loren "Pete" Dowdall, a Hancock County farmer who has provided outstanding service and leadership within the community. He and his family have been actively engaged in the farming community for three generations. Mr. Dowdall has been a vocal advocate for local farming and the issues that affect farmers in Hancock County. He's served on the school board, church council, John Wood Community College ag department advisory board and the West Central FS board of directors. Kylee Freeman 2021 Hancock County Beef Queen was honored to present the award to Mr. Dowdall. During Mr. Dowdall's acceptance speech, he attributed his family's dedication and service to his late wife Bev.

The evening's program concluded with a presentation by Dr. Bill Hollis, DVM and co-founder of Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. and Professional Swine Management, LLC.. His theme was "Grow Where You Are Planted."

Dr. Hollis shared historical insight as well as the importance of giving back to the community where you live.
