by Michael Rodeffer, The Quill

The La Harpe City Council unanimously voted to set Trick or Treat Night on Saturday, October 30th between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. at their regular October meeting on the 11th.

Water Superintendent Tim Graves informed the council that recently they flushed city hydrants and the water was cleaner than he had ever seen it.

Graves also stated that they have sent in samples of water to check for lead and copper and none of the samples showed any sign of lead and only two samples from residents showed signs of copper.

Graves said that was a big improvement from past tests and believe the chemicals they were using now were doing a much better job.

Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed informed the council that the manufacturer of the high service pumps was willing to take one pump out at a time and take it back to the factory to be rebuild and also give Trotter Construction the exact specs to redo the bases while the pump was being refurbished.

After the first pump has been reinstalled, the second pump will be removed by the manufacturer and also rebuilt. Specs for its base will also be given to Trotters so they can proceed with its construction.

Council approved adjusting a resident's water bill after a leak had been detected.

The Council discussed a $673.00 bill for repairs on the new Dodge squad car. Police Chief Larry Finch was going to see if there would be any warranty on the issue.

The Council also discussed sidewalks at 505 and 507 E Main but tabled the item until they could receive another bid.

In other action the Council unanimously approved :
