The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Hello folks,
Isn't it a beautiful harvest? The farmers have been so blessed with good weather for getting in their crops. And a little break with the rain is just what the doctor ordered to give them a little break and settle the dust. The harvest from my garden is just as nice, too. I finished up my canning and freezing as I prepare for winter.
The stewed tomatoes with peppers and onions mixed in will sure be tasty this fall and winter as I add it to soups, pasta dishes, and grandmother's famous Hungarian goulash stew. The grandchildren love to stop when I make and serve it with warm homemake bread, butter and jam. They help bake her shortbread cookies topped with slivered almonds. And they love hearing the stories of Grandma as we eat at her old wood table.
Oh, I have to tell you about Miss Ethel Farkwad. Monday, Ethel put a big wash of all her nice essentials and her dresses on the clothes line to dry in the fresh fall air. She called me, and while chatting away, a big storm came up and blew several of her items off the line over to grumpy Jack Loner's house. One of her personal items stuck right to his window! She was pretty unhappy with me as I could not keep from laughing. I could picture her on a step-stool at his window and Mr. Loner accusing her of being a "peeping Tom"!
Well, as granny always told me, keep a sense of humor as it helps throughout life. See you in church. Invite a friend.
-Love, Aunt Polly
