Council Learns County Is Seeking Ham Radio System; Senior Citizens Disband from Senior Community Center

ESDA representative Max Owsley reported that Hancock County is looking to set up a ham radio system. Owsley noted he was taking classes for this. He gave the report to the La Harpe City Council at their regular bi-monthly meeting on Monday, September 27th.

Owsley also noted the county had a reserve set up for COVID expenses and would need additional funds to keep it going.

City Clerk Lucretia McPeak informed the council that city wide clean up will be October 15th.

Treasurer Monalisa Graves informed the council the auditor will come November 4th and 5th.

In the report from the engineers, Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed reported that plans are for the high service pumps to be removed one at a time and rebuilt. The mayor noted the city was still waiting for a response from Trotter Construction.

Kurt Dittmer informed the council that the Senior Citizen Center was being vacated and no longer being used. Dittmer asked the council for any suggestions as to what to do with the building. The building is part of the Johnson Trust.

Public Comment:

Monica Crim asked the council for cost sharing to replace the sidewalk at 501 E Main Street in front of the Medical Clinic. Crim also asked for cost sharing for sidewalk replacement at 505 and 507 E. Main Street.

The council unanimously approved the request for sidewalk replacement at 501 E. Main Street (Medical Clinic). Council noted they would check out the sidewalks at the other two locations before the next meeting.

Dan Gillett noted that some posts at the city park needed replaced. Gillett also informed the council that MBS Construction was planning on fixing the bases for the cannons at the cemetery this fall.

La Harpe Council unanimously approved spending an additional $4,000 from motor fuel tax for additional asphalt at the 6th Street and South Center Street railroad crossing.

Council member Dave Clover noted the garage behind the Ayerco building would be torn down by the owners.

Council also unanimously approved the treasurer's report and payment of bills.
