Leah Nickols is from Buffalo, Illinois and graduated from Tri-City High School. She went on to attend Illinois College and earned her degree.
She married Phil Nickols, and they have been married for three years.
Leah has worked in the LaHarpe School district for five years. She teaches 5th-8th grade science, and 6th-8th Social Studies. Her favorite thing about teaching is, "building relationships with the kids and hearing about how they keep learning when they leave my classroom," she says.
"It's exciting to know that they find some meaning in what we do together!".
In her free time, Leah enjoys reading, being active with her husband Phil, and going to museums.
When Leah was asked what has changed in her teaching due to COVID, this was her response:
"There have certainly been struggles with COVID education, but I have also had to reevaluate how I do some things, and I think that my students have enjoyed some of the things that I've been learning to do better."
Leah Nickols' advice to students is, "Remember that learning isn't about doing well in school. It's about working to create a world that is better than the one you came into".
