Hugh Forbes and his son Jeff began MEDIA TRANSIENT, INC. more than ten years ago, hauling commodities. They began by hauling meat out of the local pork packing plants to Florida and hauling vegetables back.
At one point they had brought back 9 cases of avocados which were rejected at the store so they hauled them up to a not so good part of Chicago. They decided they would concentrate on serving the local area.
Hugh said, "We haul anything from grain, dirt, rock helping with farmers, residents, road construction, you name it. We can move about anything from point A to point B, probably."
Hugh has 3 large Peterbilt trucks and a drop back trailer and more recently they purchased a Volvo end loader that fit into their budget to ease loading their stock pile of lime.
The loader helps with loading lime on the spreader but it has come in handy for various other jobs such as flattening a drive that has gotten too high and shifting the rock to another place such as in this picture.
The Biggsville rock quarry is closed but the Forbes are able to get what he calls a fine quality rock at Valley Quarry west of Abingdon and at Tennessee Quarry southwest of Colchester. ?"It's always a better price and better rock," he said.
Hugh and his wife Sheila live on the southeast side of Media where he farms. Sheila is CCAO –Henderson County Assessor, Oquawka.
His son Jeff lives in rural Stronghurst with wife Krista and works for the State Highway Dept. during the snow season. The remainder of his time, Jeff and his father work together at the farm and with their trucking operation and hauling anhydrous ammonia.
Hugh also has a daughter Jennifer, a lawyer in the Denver area. Jennifer and husband Rene have two children. Jeff and Krista have four children. Hugh's wife Sheila has two daughters and two grandchildren.
