West Central School Board Holds Special Meeting

April 28, 2021, Special Board Meeting and Board Reorganization Meeting Summary

At the Wednesday, April 28, 2021, Special Board meeting and Board Reorganization meeting of the West Central C.U.S.D. #235 Board of Education, the following items took place:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary School cafeteria by Board President Jodi Arnold.

All board members were present at roll call. Also present were Board Member Elect Dillan Vancil, Superintendent Markey, WCHS Principal Jason Kirby, WCMS Principal Joe Peters, WCES Principal Kathy Lafary, WCES Assistant Principal Andrea Frieden, WCHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Shane Tucker and School Psychologist Shaila Ayer.

The board approved the April 6, 2021 election results as certified by Henderson County Clerk Amanda Van Arsdale.

President Jodi Arnold administered the Oath of Office to re-elected board members Sarah Bigger, Mindy Clark, and Brenda Schaley and new board member Dillan Vancil.

Superintendent Markey and the board recognized and thanked Bryan Spence for his service to the West Central School District over the past four years and for his leadership on the Board Policy Committee, the Board Farm Committee, and WCATS Sick Bank Committee.

The Board adjourned Sine Die at 6:04 p.m.

The newly seated board appointed Superintendent Markey as President Pro Tem.

Superintendent Markey called the meeting to order at 6:06 board members were present at roll call. Also present were retiring Board Member Bryan Spence, Superintendent Markey, WCHS Principal Jason Kirby, WCMS Principal Joe Peters, WCES Principal Kathy Lafary, WCES Assistant Principal Andrea Frieden, WCHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Shane Tucker and School Psychologist Shaila Ayer.

Superintendent Markey opened the floor for nominations for President of the Board of Education. Sarah Bigger and Brendan Schaley were nominated. Five votes were cast for Board Member Schaley, and two votes were cast for Board Member Bigger. Brendan Schaley will serve as President of the Board of Education.

Superintendent Markey and the board recognized and thanked Jodi Arnold for her calm and consistent leadership as President of the Board of Education over the last two extremely difficult years in education.

President Schaley opened the floor for nominations for Vice President of the Board of Education. Mike Lenahan was nominated for Vice President. Seven votes were cast for Board Member Lenahan. Mike Lenahan will serve as Vice President of the Board of Education.

President Schaley opened the floor for nominations for Secretary of the Board of Education. Mindy Clark was nominated for secretary. Seven votes were cast for Board Member Clark. Mindy Clark will serve as Secretary of the Board of Education.

The board approved Nancy Clark as the Board Recording Secretary.

The board approved the list of meeting dates, times, and locations for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. These dates, times, and locations will be posted on the district website.

The board approved the following board committees and appointed the following board members to each committee:

The board approved a proposal from Laverdiere Construction in the amount of $180,883 for them to make repairs to the parking lots on the north campus.

The board entered closed session at 6:21 p.m. to discuss matters related to personnel. The board exited closed session at 7:10 p.m. The board took no action following closed session.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary cafeteria.

The board adjourned their meeting at 7:19 p.m.
