DIANA HIGGINS

Diana Higgins of rural Bushnell was born and raised for the majority of her life in Galesburg. She then moved to Mt. Zion for 10 years where she lived between the age of 11 & the age of 21.

She attended Mt. Zion High School where she graduated, and went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal in Business Education. She received a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb in Instructional Design & Technology.

"Do you have any children? Are you married?"

..."We have a blended family," Diana replied. "Darin and I have been married for 7 years in May this year. Our daughter Abbie is 26, and is married with two girls of her own (ages 2 & 4 months). She is a graduate of WIU as well.

Our son, Cody recently graduated from high school and joined the United States Army. He is 19 and officially an Airborne Combat Medic".

Diana teaches Graphic Design within the Art & Design Department at WIU/Macomb.

She has been in higher education for 27 years - teaching 19 of those years.

"What are some of your favorite parts about teaching?"

…"Being able to increase my students' skills and base knowledge within their chosen profession is what I love most".

When she was asked how has Covid-19 effected teaching this was her response,

…"I chose to stay face to face with my students so other than wearing a mask and some extra cleaning, I haven't allowed it to affect my classroom".

During Diana's free time she enjoys golfing with her husband, loving on their two dogs, and running an at-home graphic design business.

Diana's advice to students is, "Put forth your best effort while in school and talk with your professors–they are here to help you.

Once you achieve your diploma, it is something that no one can ever take away from you".
