Tuition Waiver Hearing and West Central Regular Board Meeting

At the Wednesday, February 17, 2021, Tuition Waiver Hearing and regular board meeting of the

West Central C.U.S.D. #235 Board of Education, the following items took place:

The board held a Public Hearing for a District Employee Tuition Waiver in the West Central Elementary School cafeteria. The Public Hearing was called to order at 6:00 p.m. The purpose of the hearing was to receive public comment on a proposed waiver application to allow children of non-resident district employees to attend a West Central School either tuition free or at a reduced tuition rate. There was no one present to offer public comment.

The Hearing adjourned at 6:01 p.m.

The regular meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. in the West Central Elementary School cafeteria. All board members were present at roll call.

President Arnold led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

WCE participated in the World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) on February 3. We had several guest readers who recorded their favorite books online to be shared with students in their classrooms.

WCE celebrated the 100th day of school on February 9.

Athletics are underway!

Thank you was given to the following Henderson County Health Department workers and volunteers who assisted with administering the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to our staff on February 8, 2021:

The board approved the agenda as presented.

There was no one present to address the board.

The board approved the Consent Agenda. Items approved under the Consent Agenda included the following:

Superintendent Markey reminded the Board of their responsibilities as Mandated Reporters.

The board discussed the 2020-2021 Reopening Plan, considerations for extending the school day, and a timeline for extending the day. West Central will move to a 2:00 p.m. dismissal beginning March 22, 2021.

The board reviewed and heard reports from the building principals; Shane Tucker, Athletic Director; Melinda Frakes, District Technology Coordinator; and Shaila Ayer, District Psychologist and Special Education Coordinator.

The board approved the 12-month lease of a 2018 Chevy Cruze LT (Driver Education car) from Bruce Foote Chevrolet of Monmouth in the amount of $150 per month with two payments of $900 at six month intervals as presented.

The board approved a 3-year bus lease agreement with Midwest Bus Sales as presented.

The board did not hold a Closed Session.

The board took the following action in regard to personnel:

The board was reminded that the next regularly scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary cafeteria.
