Stronghurst Board Discusses Park Issues

By Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

At the Village of Stronghurst board meeting on June 7th the issue of vandalism at the village park was discussed.

There have been problems with foul language being used, trash thrown around, flowers destroyed, lights being turned on etc.

Since the village attorney was not present so what could be done legally to curb the situation could not be determined and will be placed on the agenda for next month.

If anyone observes misbehavior at the park or has a problem they may go to city hall and fill out a complaint form.

Along with these problems at the park the spray park was also discussed. The Stronghurst Booster Club has spent a $1,000 on repair parts for the spray park. Brian Johnson Plumbing of Roseville is looking into the problems to see if there is a way of fixing it. It will likely not be in use this year due to the current problems with the village's water supply.

A representative from Brotcke Well Company made a presentation on blasting well #4 in the hopes of making it more productive. The company did work on the well in 2017 which helped it at that time. He feels the best method is to combine an air burst procedure and follow that with an acid treatment to open up the cracks.

The first thing they would need to do would be pull the pump and take a video of the well to be sure what the best method of treatment would be.

The entire process would be a four day procedure, meaning the village's water would need to come from well #5 during that time. Shane Reed made a motion to schedule this company to do the work, seconded by Randy Jarvis. Motion passed 5-1 with Mike Bohnenkamp casting the only no vote.

The police report for May included: 55 hours worked; 300 miles on squad car; 3 traffic stops with 2 verbal warnings and 1 uniform traffic ticket; 12 service calls with 1 assist with Henderson County; 34 business courtesy checks.

According to Mike Swisher the zoning board has approved an application to build a new house at 204 S. Elizabeth Street; a permit for 314 S. North St. for a fence extension; a permit for the Feedlot building addition; permit for a concrete pad at 108 S. Division St.; and at 302 N Hwy 94 a concrete pad.

Items tabled due to the village attorney not being present included:
