West Central FS, Inc. has been serving Henderson County farmers and residents in the Stronghurst area for over 86 years. It began as Henderson County Service Company, opening on April 26th, 1934 in Stronghurst.
On September 1st, 1970, the Henderson County Service Company merged with Warren County Service Company to become Stockland F.S., Inc..
Then Stockland F.S., Inc. merged with Spoon River Stockland F.S. for yet another name change - Riverland F.S., Inc.
West Central FS, Inc., Macomb merged into Riverland FS, Inc., Galesburg on September 1, 2012, officially combining operations of their agricultural supply, retail and commercial energy and grain marketing organizations.
The new cooperative provides many advantages to their customers, including a wider range of products and more specialized services as well as realize greater efficiencies in their day-to-day operations.
The new company has an approximate 20 percent ownership in Western Grain Marketing, LLC, along with Two Rivers FS, Inc. and GROWMARK.
The two boards of directors combined to form a 16-member group, with eight members from each previous company's geography. New officers were elected the first week of September. Serving the Board of Directors are: Garold Ray-President, Dan Defenbaugh, Steve Evans, Brad Flatt, Greg Dowdall, Barry Fisher, Gene Greuel, Richard Harman, Jeff Link, Randy Parks, Burdette Rosendale, Jeff Sharer, Jay West, Matt Zimmerman, Matt Hawkinson and Monte Allison.
Today, this merged organization is doing business as West Central FS, Inc., and, according to their website, will continue to serve more than 6,000 patrons from 29 service centers in northern Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, and Warren counties in Illinois and Lee County in Iowa with headquarters in Galesburg.
The company reports they currently employ more than 125 people offering products and services in agronomy, Crop Protection, Crop Nutrients, Seed, Lubricants, Propane for residential, agricultural, and commercial, autogas, other Petroleum Products, FS Agri-Finance, Technology, FS MiField, Precision Farming, Climate FieldView, Precision Planting Equipment, Grain Storage & Buildings, Turf, GreenYard Professional, FAST STOP convenience, Western Grain Marketing-Cash Bids, DTN Weather and more.
The West Central Fast Stop offers gasoline/fuel, snacks, beverages, tobacco, hunting/fishing licenses, lottery tickets, and they definitely keep busy with their Hunt Brother's Pizza sales along with other food items.
