Schar's Veterinary Clinic

On December 15, 2003, Jon and Lorrie Schar opened the doors of their brand new building for the first clients at Schar's Veterinary Clinic. Prior to that, the land on where the clinic sits was a corn field next to the Schar's home.

Jon's dream was to have a clinic of his own, where he could share his daily life with his wife and children. Thru the years, the clinic has been a family affair. Lorrie started working as the Office Manager when the clinic opened. The kids, Spencer (a freshman nursing student at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA) and Emma (a Senior at Notre Dame in Burlington, IA), were familiar faces, playing with puppies, kittens, calves, and helping where needed as they grew.

The walls of the clinic are still decorated with photos of the kids, as well as the artwork they made for their parents over the years, starting in pre-school. They even went as a family on vet calls. They were welcome sights walking into barns and yards of several of the clinic clients. Sitting on a bale of straw in the barn, Lorrie had many middle of the night conversations with farm wives, while Jon pulled a calf or did a cesarean section to save a new calf and its mother. If you ask Jon Schar, he will tell you that the once empty corn field truly has become his field of dreams.
