Aunt Polly

Hello folks,

This weather has sure kept me wearing my sweater in the house and keeping the stove stoked. But this thawing damp weather gives me even more of a chill. I am adding some extra vitamin C with juices and plenty of veggies in order not to get a cold.

My neighbor Gertrude stopped by hacking and coughing, poor thing. I kept my distance but sent her home with some of my honey and peppermint tea along with some homemade bread. She seemed happy enough and understanding why I didn't ask her in to sit a spell. I really miss our talks I told her. We will try again next week when she is feeling better.

Hope you stay home if you are not feeling well even when it is hard and you just need a neighbor to stop in.

There are some good books out there. My friend is reading to his grandchildren every night the book by Charles Dickens. He has written some fine books around 1840, his first novel and one of his finest is The Pickwick Papers. Also - David Copperfield, and A Christmas Carol with Scrooge.

He also wrote A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, Barnaby Rudge, and Oh, I think "The Old Curiosity Shop" is a good one. It's about a sweet little girl who lives with her grandfather and works at the titular shops and in a gamble loses all their money in a desperate gamble. She has to take the reins and led them out of the ruins of London and to a better life.

So many adventures in a good book and while you are stuck in and should remain in if sick, you have the time to indulge. Well, young Thomas needs me, so off I go. See you in church. -Love, Aunt Polly
