The La Harpe City Council met on January 25th at 7:00 p.m. First on the agenda was for Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed to nominate Deanna Stambaugh as Ward 1 alderperson to fill out Jerry Burford's remaining term. The council unanimously approved Stambaugh's appointment. City Clerk Lucretia McPeak swore in Stambaugh as a council member.
Dave Clover informed the council that a joint committee meeting was needed to go over some budget line-items. It was decided to have the joint committee committee meeting at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. At 7:00 p.m. on the same day will be the council's regular meeting.
Police Chief Larry Finch reported the cage had been installed in the Ford police vehicle. Finch said the new Dodge police vehicle had not arrived yet. Finch also Reported Alexis Landrum had resigned since some of her training would not transfer to Illinois. Landrum had been hired but never entered into a contract with the city.
City Clerk Lucretia McPeak informed the council Attorney Kurt Dittmer had called her and would be at the next meeting (Feb. 8th) to bring the Johnson report to the council.
Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed informed the council that city attorney Chris Scholz said the city would not have time to get ownership of 116 and 118 North Main properties before the due date of the grant. Hasten-Reed said that Scholz was still going to work on getting ownership for the city and plan on applying next year for the grant to help with the cost of demolition and re-development of the properties.
Police officer Marli Burt said she now has the stickers which can be purchased for ATV's and golf carts. The cost of the stickers will be $10 this year.
