Saturday, July 31st, two felony suspects, a husband and wife team, were arrested in Hancock County near the John Deere dealership outside of Carthage–336 County Road 2350 E– after an armed bank robbery occurred in the morning in Warren County at the Community National Bank in Roseville. Based on witness information, a vehicle description was provided to area law enforcement.
According to Hancock County Chief Deputy Josh Smith, an off-duty police office spotted the car in McDonough County and followed it into Hancock County where two Hancock County deputies followed the vehicle and turned on their lights and siren, joined by other police agencies. The two suspects pulled over without incident. They both were taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded. No one was harmed during the incident.
Warren County Sheriff's release said that the matter was referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but reports that bond was set Tuesday morning, August 3rd in Warren County Court and counsel was appointed for the couple who are charged with the July 31st robbery of the Community National Bank:
Kimberly A. Cook, 57 and Brian P. Cook, also 57, of Missouri.
Bond was set for Ms. Cook in the amount of $150,000 which requires 10% cash ($15,000) in order to be released. Ms. Cook has shoplifting charges pending in the State of Missouri.
Bond was set for her husband Brian P. Cook, in the amount of $250,000, 10% cash ($25,000) in order to be released. Mr. Cook has a prior conviction for theft in Madison County and was sentenced to four years in prison for that offense.
The court imposed identical conditions to the bond which forbid either from leaving the state and requires turning over any dangerous weapons in their possession.
Both defendants are accused of Armed Robbery, Aggravated Robbery and Theft over $100,000 but less than $500,000. It's also alleged that a dangerous weapon was used in the commission of the Robbery.
Ms. Cook is lodged in the Mercer County Jail and Mr. Cook is lodged in the Warren County jail in lieu of bond. Each defendant faces no less than six years in prison and up to thirty years in prison if convicted of Armed Robbery, a Class X felony, an offense for which probation is not available.
Federal authorities are expected to seek indictments against the pair, in addition to the charges filed by the Warren County State's Attorney's Office. Investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
Charges are not evidence; they are only accusations. The accused are presumed innocent of all charges until proven guilty in a court of law, Warren County press release reports.
