Stronghurst Water Supply Holding Steady

By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

At the Village of Stronghurst board meeting Ronnie Gittings reported, since the water leaks in town have been fixed, the town's average use is now 65,000 gallon of water per day. This is down from the 85,000 gallon per day they used before the leaks were discovered and repaired. He reported both wells now recover faster than they did previously, but still not as high as they should be.

Gittings reported the in points for the 40 new water meters are now in and ready for installation. The new meters will make it easier to detect leaks sooner in the home, according to Gittings.

Gittings has completed a 4 hour water course which gives him enough credits to renew his license for three years.

The police report, given by Arbry Vancil, for March included 59 hours worked; 18 training hours; 340 miles on squad car; 4 traffic stops with 4 verbal warnings; 1 assist; 1 arrest, 23 business courtesy checks. He also stated he has a list of residents he would be calling on in regards to junk and old cars, etc. that is needing cleaned up.

Sara Evans Brown told the board the sidewalk and culvert was in need of repair at the Feedlot. She reminded the board she had filled a sink hole when installing the outside fence and now that rock was gone and the hole is back.

Jarred Dexter of WIRC was present to tell the board what steps would be necessary for them to apply for a $550,000 grant. The first step would be to survey the village as all projects must serve a population with greater than 51% low-to-moderate income.

The board approved Attorney Mariah Wallace talking with West Central FS representatives regarding the cost of bulk water, as well as a contract agreement in the event something would go wrong with the deep well. This would divide the any expense that might pertain to the well between the village and FS. The usage of the deep well will be 95% by FS according to Gittings.

In other business the board:
