What a Month

What a month the COVID-19 virus has brought us. It has many in a state of anxiety like I have never seen in my lifetime. I am pleased that people are checking on neighbors and many are seeking ways to help others.

It's good to see businesses who are shut down due to mandates, finding ways they can continue to serve customers such as the restaurants with curb-side pick-up.

Local grocery stores are doing their best to keep shelves stocked and appreciate people buying locally.

Rebecca Quivey at R&M Food and Florist said she had some toilet paper in her store on Monday but was waiting that afternoon for the supply truck to bring more, plus hand sanitizer which she was out of. Fishers and Dollar General were out of toilet paper but were waiting on supply trucks to come.

Schools are canceled for at least the month of March and students are working online in Iowa and Illinois.

Son Damon who lives in Urbandale, IA, and works in technology for Corteva Agriscience 2019 (Pioneer Seed) is working at home for the month remotely as his company works to protect staff from the coronavirus. His wife Kellee, a school teacher as well as their four kids are home, one from high school and three from University of Kansas Med, University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa. It's especially hard for seniors who are giving up extra activities in their last year of school.

Daughter and husband Tami and Scott Postle are in New Jersey visiting their son Drew and hope to return Thursday after a week's visit, hopefully well.

A patient is critical with the coronavirus in Iowa City from La Harpe, and someone in Quincy is reported with the virus all is a worry.

You may not have seen President Trump's tweet on my birthday, March 13th, but it was as follows and just what we needed:

"It is my great honor to declare Sunday, March 15th as a National Day of Prayer. We are a Country that, throughout our history, has looked to God for protection and strength in times like these...."

5:54 PM - March 13, 2020

the President continued: "No matter where you may be, I encourage you to turn towards prayer in an act of faith. Together, we will easily PREVAIL!"

I am sharing the following letter from Life Petitions who states, "President Trump and Vice President Pence are right. We need prayer to fight coronavirus!": Huge momentum is growing for our call to join with Vice President Pence in praying to God to ask for help to stop the spread of the coronavirus and to help those already suffering.

Since launching this petition only last week, almost 13,000 people have already signed in support.

Would you PLEDGE NOW to pray for unity and wisdom among our politicians to help contain the spread of this deadly disease? Even in a week, the coronavirus has been steadily increasing in prevalence in the United States and in parts of Europe.

This is a critical moment in the spread of this disease!

That's why, right now, we need to make an even bigger appeal to God, that He would direct our public servants with the wisdom needed to make the right decisions, to prevent the situation from getting any worse. "Let's show politicians in Washington D.C. that America is united in prayer against the coronavirus "

But, most of all, let's show them that our trust is not in government but in Almighty God, that His will be done."
