My College Life at WIU

by Grace Lessen - Special For The Quill

The first week of college will always be a nerve racking experience - especially in the midst of a pandemic!

On August 24th, my first week of college began. I knew going into it that this year would be very different.

At Western Illinois University in Macomb (WIU) and many other colleges, we are required to wear face masks and to social distance.

A big challenge I faced was meeting people for the first time and only seeing half of their faces!

On my first day I only had one class. With the way my schedule works, a lot of my classes only meet once a week to keep our class sizes small. Since I only had one class that day, it didn't really feel like my first day.

However, the following Tuesday I had my first art classes! I am majoring in Graphic Design, so these classes are essential to my major!

My first class of the day was 2D Design. As most first days go, it was pretty low-key.

Thanks to the world of social media, I had already made a friend and we were able to sit together.

My next class was Drawing 1 and we got right to work! I had so much fun in this class and I can already tell it is going to be one of my favorites!

Although this year is very different, and I'm not sure I will be learning in person the whole semester:. I want to make the very most out of it!
