JANET SHINKLE

Janet was born in Danville, IL and moved to Macomb her senior year of high school. Her family originated from the Danville area. Now she resides at Oak Wood Estates in Stronghurst.

Janet graduated from Western Illinois University High School and Western Illinois University. She did her graduate work at the University of Illinois.

In 1959, she married Charles Shinkle, who passed away in 2013.

Janet has two children, Cindy and Eric. Her daughter Cindy is married to Terry Clark and they live in Melbourne Beach, FL. Cindy is an account manager for a large company.

Eric is married to Vanessa and they live outside Lynnville, IA. He works for Anderson-Erickson Dairy.

Vanessa and Eric have three children: Andrew, who is a police officer in Pella, IA. Andrew and his wife, Shelby have a son, 10-month old, Carter. Christian works as an IT person for an insurance company in Des Moines, IA. Naomi just got married in April to Dawson Hackett and the newlyweds live in Panhandle, TX. Her husband is a minister.

Janet retired from Southern Community Unit 120 after being a media specialist for the district for 33 years. She taught computers and math and took care of the library and independent studies.

Her hobbies include reading and getting on the computer.

Her family used to go to Estes Park, CO every summer for vacation.

Janet's outlook on life is to stay positive and look on the bright side.

When asked how do you feel about parents home schooling their children, Janet said, "I think they can do it, but it is hard having your own family, even teachers would rather not have their kids in class."
