Stronghurst Village Board-COVID-19 Savvy

By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

The Village of Stronghurst held their monthly meeting on Monday, May 4th, with all in attendance wearing masks and seated as far apart as possible. Guests were seated in the garage area.

Sara Evans Brown, owner of The Feedlot, was present to ask the board if it would be possible to get a special permit for 30 days to sell package liquor.

Attorney Mariah Wallace said if the village allowed it, it would still need to be approved by the state. If changes were made it would also pertain to Rivals On Main.

Randy Jarvis said the liquor committee would be discussing the possibility of renewing the liquor license, which is due in July, to $1 or pro-rated for the coming year.

This is to help both restaurants to stay in business after being shut down for the corona virus.

Since this item was not on the agenda, there will be a special board meeting held on Monday, May 11th to address the issue.

Ronnie Gittings reported they have another water line to replace in front of Bob's TV (the old Chevy garage building) and needed direction on the culvert. Should just a section be removed or the whole culvert. The board voted to do the whole culvert.

Gittings also requested replacing a color meter at the water plant. They have two of these meters but one is needing repairs, which is not possible to get now as the meter is too old. A new one, which the board approved, will cost $1,436. The second meter will be used for a back up as long as it lasts.

Police report for April included: 74.5 hours worked, 212 miles on the squad car, 1 traffic stop, with a verbal warning, 8 service calls, and 16 business courtesy checks.

In old business the board approved the bid of $6,600 from Tim Thompson Contracting for repair to the sidewalk on Broadway Street's west side.

In other business the board approved:
