Life has come to a halt, and then took a different kind of a twist compared to the many years I've spent on this earth.
I could name the changes, but you have already heard enough about the "Corona" effect on us all.
For most of us, we just want to be able to do what we use to do: what we all took for granted before, like visiting our kids, playing in the park, having a family reunion at the La Harpe Clubhouse.
I have been trying to find out when the La Harpe Clubhouse will open after its extensive remodeling. The last I heard from Barry Wright, was as soon as the windows were replaced, and the cleaning and the electrical work is finished, they'll be able to plan for reopening and for an open house. "Right now, I just don't know," he said.
I stopped by the Clubhouse on Monday and the cleaning people from Galesburg said they would be finished cleaning by the end of the day, so that is done. He also said the electrician was still doing work inside. So, it sounds like when the electrical work is complete, we may hear some news very soon from the park board.
The park board was to meet tonight, June 10th, and a decision is to be made on whether or not there will be a La Harpe fire works celebration on the 4th of July. Hopefully, we will have some news for next week's paper about all of this.
Area churches announced that after drive-in services in their parking lot or virtual sermons, they are back in the church with social distancing. La Harpe Christian Church is asking for reservations to limit each service to 50.
Union Church will be back to normal with 8:00 am and 10:30 am worship, but will continue to observe social distancing with no reservations required.
For some good news at The Quill, Delbert Kreps has agreed to keep the office open for us on Monday mornings and take care of receiving your news, ads, and subscriptions. Thank you Delbert!
Please continue to bring in your birthday, anniversary, news of family and social gatherings in The Quill and of your new births and weddings.
If you're going on an adventure, please take The Quill along, have your picture taken with it, send it to us, so we can put it on the front page. Send us your stories and let us know of some of your adventures at work with COVID-19, or work on the farm, in your church or in your home. Quill readers are anxious to hear of them. Help us keep connected. Mail them to The Quill, PO Box 465, La Harpe, IL 61450, or email them to quill@hcil.net.
