West Central Still Working On Plans For The Coming School Year

At the June 17th West Central School Board meeting Superintendent Markey updated the board on the progress and discussions that have been had regarding plans for the opening of the 2020-2021 school year.

The administrative team will be considering staff and parent survey results as well as an anticipated transition plan with guidelines that will come from ISBE when discussing and developing tentative plans over the next few weeks.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.in the West Central North campus library by Board President Jodi Arnold and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The board discussed hosting the back to school lunch for teachers again on August 17, 2020 and agreed to host this luncheon if allowed under state guidance.

The Board discussed a proposal from Laverdiere Construction, Inc. to repair some pavement on the north campus. The Building and Grounds Committee will meet to discuss the proposal further and prioritize the work needing done.

There were no administrative reports.

Action Item 10-C was tabled, pending receipt of the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Delebar CTE System.

The Board entered closed session at 6:47 p.m. to discuss matters related to the following:

A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity.

B. Student discipline.

C. Collective negotiating matters between the school board and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.

D. The placement of individual students in special education programs and other matters relating to individual students.

They exited closed session at 7:14 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central North Campus Library.

The board adjourned their meeting at 7:22 p.m.

All board members with the exception of Mike Lenahan were present at roll call. Board Member Brendan Schaley was present via Zoom. Others present were Superintendent Paula Markey and Board Secretary Nancy Clark. WCES Principal Kathy Lafary, WCES Assistant Principal Andrea Frieden, WCMS Principal Joe Peters, WCHS Principal Jason Kirby, WCHS Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Shane Tucker, and Technology Director Melinda Frakes were also present via Zoom.
