La Harpe Restaurant Closes Doors

by Dessa Rodeffer, Quill Owner

"The Country Cafe" owned by Rebecca Quivey of La Harpe, closed its doors for business shortly after 3:00 p.m. December 29, 2019.

"The Quill" is unable to get details on the closing or future plans, but were told, the closing came "with heavy heart." The family had served La Harpe as their local cafe for ten years with Rebecca carrying on the legacy of her parents, the late Larry and Carol Boone who ran restaurants in La Harpe over the years.

One customer said he and friends who regularly gathered at Country Cafe for morning breakfast were there on the 29th, and were surprised to find it closed the next morning.

Another on Facebook said: "We'll sure miss this super place! Constantly ran into old friends and acquaintances while eating some of the very best food in the whole country!"

Rebecca's daughter Carolyn Neff posted. "This decision DID NOT come easily." "I want to thank each and everyone of you that have continually supported us over the last 10 years and for all the memories. We couldn't have made it this far without you. I want to thank our very loyal, dedicated and wonderful employees. All of you have became family."

Last week, the new restaurant Rivals on Main II, extended their hours and is now open for breakfast excluding Tuesday "taco day," their ad noted which included their new hours.
