La Harpe City Council Hears About Summer Library Programs; Approves 2nd Amendment Sanctuary City

by Michael Rodeffer - The Quill

The La Harpe Library Director, Sandy Little, addressed the La Harpe City Council Monday, February 10th, and explained to the council that the summer reading program will be costing at least $1500.

Little said any donation would be appreciated to help with the costs. Little explained the library board is planning more events to keep the kids more involved in summer reading. They are also planning a 45 minute show called "Absolute Science" which will include science, technology, engineering, and math to help motivate the kids in the summer.

The show will include chemicals like a volcano that explodes, safe fire, lasers, electricity, disappearing ink, fire breathing dragon, laser popping balloons, color changing chemicals and teleporting sound and more. Little said they were just trying to get the kids more involved in science and math.

Weekly reading programs are planned throughout the summer including a pool party and cookout and scrap booking one week. So get your kids signed up soon!

The council unanimously approved a $250 donation for the library citing that it is in town and for a good cause. (kids)

Megan Crook, IMEG Representative, informed the council that the Reverse-Osmosis unit was suppose to arrive on Thursday. Crook also pointed out that some of the grant money for the water project could probably be used to help purchase a water department truck for the city as long as it was used exclusively for the water department. Crook said USDA has declared Hancock County as a disaster county and there could be grants applied for to even purchase a squad car. That grand would cover 55% of the cost if approved.

In other action, the council unanimously approved:
