West Central Congratulates Coach Jay Blender

For Upcoming Induction Into Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame

West Central Superintendent Paula Markey and Shane Tucker WC Athletic Director recognized Coach Jay Blender (retired) for his upcoming induction into the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame on May 2nd in Bloomington, IL.

Several presentations were made to Coach Blender during the halftime of the Varsity West Central Heat boys game vs. Mercer County Golden Eagles including three basketballs with Heat signatures from former players and one inscribed for his name and induction and 401 career wins, 2 Regional Championships, 4 Bi-County Conference Championships, and several Bi-County Conference Tournament Championships. Some of his "Blenderisms" were read.

West Central's JV game was cancelled due to an Ameren IL power outage beyond the school's control, Supt. Markey said. Lights were restored shortly after 6:30 pm. and young cheerleaders from a recent clinic performed prior to the varsity game.

Also, a time of recognition was given prior to the start of the WC Varsity game for the passing of West Central Bus Driver Richard Goff, before the National anthem was played by the West Central high school band.

West Central Heat played a tough and exciting game vs. the Mercer County Golden Eagles with a victory.
