Council Hears La Harpe Gains Funding Toward New Police Vehicle

La Harpe Councilman Brian Covert informed the Council Monday Aug. 10th, that the city was approved for an $18,500 grant toward a new police vehicle. Covert stated that the city would have to pay the balance of the cost which would be arond $15,300.

Police Chief Larry Finch reported that the Impala police car needed a new exhaust and also a headlight. The total cost for a complete exhaust system was going to be $425.

Clerk Lucretia McPeak asked the council for approval to pay the Hancock County Highway Dept. $399.60 out of the Motor Fuel Tax Fund. The council unanimously approved this item by vote.

City Treasurer Monalisa Graves informed the Council that Wood Tax & Accounting had all the books updated except for the payroll items. Graves informed the Council that she had purchased "Quick-Books 2020" as that was the system used by Wood Accounting.

Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed reported a "Brownfield representative should be in town this week to look at the dilapidated buildings which the City had been seeking grants for the clean up of the sites.

Council members discussed the possible uses for any extra money left over from the $7 million grant project that must be used on water issues.
