Bill Mapes, a 1981 graduate of La Harpe High School, moved to California right out of high school to study computer programming. He graduated from Pacific Legal Arts College in 1982.
Bill is the CEO for W. E. Mapes Construction, Inc., a construction business he started 30 years ago.
He and his wife, Stacey, reside in Simi Valley, California and will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary this coming July. Their plans were to travel to Italy to celebrate their anniversary, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, their trip will be put on hold.
Bill and Stacey are the parents of two grown children, Alison and Andrew. Alison (30) is married to Seth Dorsey and they reside in Bryan, Texas. Andrew (27) and wife, Hannah, live in The Dalles, Oregon. Bill and Stacey enjoy visits with their grandson, Lucas Dorsey, and they are excited for two more grandchildren coming this fall.
Stacey is a state side manager for non-profit Life Impact International, which is a Christian based organization based in Thailand and now Brazil. The organization rescues children that are at risk of being or have been human trafficked. Bill and Stacey travel at least once a year for Stacey to work and for Bill to do missionary work on their land (usually construction related projects).
The couple has also vacationed in Mexico, Virgin Islands, Eastern Caribbean, London, Thailand, and Burma.
Bill says "our traveling is usually going to visit our children in Texas and Oregon. And, of course, Thailand for 2-3 weeks every year. I saw a lot of the United States watching my daughter play travel softball."
He says his latest hobbies are "off roading" and desert "glamping". "I still like to drive fast and there are no tickets in the desert!"
"Glamping" is a non-traditional camping setting with amenities.
Bill is the son of Danny and Bette June Mapes of La Harpe. His siblings are Brenda (Argyle, IA), Michael (Hanna City, IL) and Murphy (La Harpe).
