Dave Vancil, A Good Stronghurst Businessman Dies "Good Friday"

Long time businessman and community supporter David L Vancil, Sr. passed away on "Good Friday," April 10, 2020.

Dave owned and ran the local VANCIL LOCKER SERVICE on West Broadway in Stronghurst, and was known as a hard worker and family man, concerned about the Stronghurst community, his life-long home.

Deer Season was especially busy at the Locker plant, and although his health advisors warned him to take it easy, Dave continued to show up and help do the heavy work at the locker.

He also attended monthly board meetings, sporting events of his children, and served as a volunteer firefighter at the MST Fire Department in Stronghurst for 52 years. Fire Chief Larry Fox sent out to fire fighters an emotional salute in his honor over the MST fire phones.

Dave also has served for many years as a Stronghurst Village Trustee urging the village to keep the streets, gutters, and sidewalks safe and in good repair. The Village Board lit a candle at their meeting Monday evening and Mayor Brendan Schaley gave a tribute to Dave for his service to the community and for the town's loss.

Dave made a difference in his community and he will be deeply missed in Stronghurst.

David and Margaret raised four fine boys: the Honorable Judge David Vancil, Jr., rural Little York, Arbry Vancil of Stronghurst who is Chief of Police in Stronghurst, Doug Vancil rural Smithshire who has helped his dad run the locker plant in Stronghurst, and Brayden Vancil, a West Central High School senior, and two loving daughters, Kristin Vancil of Rio, IL, Amber (Nick) Olson of Burlington, IA, and they have nineteen grandchildren,

Dave was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Rest in peace, David.
