Tombstone Bowl Approved As Bowling Facility

At the October 16th meeting of the West Central School Board, the board approved an agreement to use Tombstone Bowl of Monmouth, as the bowling facility for WCHS Bowling team as presented.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.in the West Central Elementary School cafeteria by Board President Jodi Arnold.

All board members were present at roll call except Brendan Schaley. Student Representatives to the Board of Education Emijah Jones and Wesley Stewart were in attendance. Also present were Superintendent Markey, WCHS Principal Jason Kirby, WCMS Principal Joe Peters, WCES Principal Kathy Lafary, WCES Assistant Principal Andrea Freiden, Technology Director Melinda Frakes, School Psychologist and Special Education Director Shaila Ayer, Music Teachers Matt Stewart and Danna Cory, and elementary teacher Cathie Smith. Some Academic Excellence Award recipients and their families were also in attendance.

President Arnold led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Under Good News Items the following items were highlighted:

• Congratulations were given to the 2019 Illinois State Scholars: Macy Benge, Dylan Gibbs, Tucker Peterson, Eric Rathbone, and Wesley Stewart.
• Board President Arnold and Board Member Spence complimented the Children's Choir on their recent performances at the football game and the volleyball game.
• Board President Arnold complimented the new marching band uniforms.
• Board President Arnold thanked the Middle School for allowing her to visit a couple classrooms.
• WCES Principal Kathy Lafary and Assistant Principal Andrea Frieden demonstrated to the board how the new Sensory path and the Chill Room work.

The board approved the meeting agenda as presented with no additions or deletions.

There were no comments from the public.

The board approved the Consent Agenda. Items approved under the Consent Agenda included the following:

• The minutes of the September 25, 2019 FY20 District Budget Hearing
• The minutes of the September 25, 2019, Regular Meeting and Closed Session
• The September 2019 bills, September 2019 building Activity Account Reports, the September 2019 Treasurer's Report, and review of the District Financial Report.

The board discussed revisions to Board Policy 8:20 - Community Use of School Facilities.

Superintendent Markey provided information about the Triple I Conference in Chicago to those board members who have registered to attend.

The board reviewed and heard reports from the building principals as well as a Technology Report from Mrs. Frakes, a report from our District Psychologist and Special Education Director, Shaila Ayer, and an Athletic Report from Jason Kirby. The following items were noted in the reports:

• West Central Middle School Glow Run is November 5, 2019.
• West Central Middle School is preparing for the annual Veterans Day Program.
• West Central High School is excited about the data the MAP Assessment will be providing to assist in instruction.
• West Central District Office has begun training for the transition to the new Skyward Financial Program.
• Due to the prediction of low player numbers in the future, a possible switch to 8-man football will be explored.
• West Central Volleyball is seeded 6th in the regional.

The board approved the FY19 District audit report as presented. West Central C.U.S.D. #235 received a Total Profile Score of 4.00 out of 4.00 and a Financial Profile Designation of RECOGNITION. Thanked the district office staff Nancy Clark, Shelly Nelson, and Jaime Shultz and the building secretaries and administration for their outstanding work to ensure accurate record keeping.

The board approved the Architects Annual Inspection Report for District Owned Temporary Buildings as presented.

The board did not hold a closed session.

The board took the following action in regards to personnel:

• approved the employment Teresa Stevenson as a Homebound Instructor, and
• approved the employment of Tyler Klossing as the WCHS Assistant Boys' Basketball Coach.

The board was reminded that the next regularly scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary cafeteria.
