City Council Sets Trick Or Treat Hours

Proclaims Lincoln Day In La Harpe

The La Harpe City Council set October 31st as Halloween Trick or Treat night with hours from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will include a "trunk or treat" event around the city park.

The council met on October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the city hall. Several Boy Scouts were present to observe the procedure of how a city meeting is run. Mayor Kat Hasten-Reed introduced some of the department heads to the scouts and explained at different times during the meeting why or what the council was doing.

The council approved October 23rd "Lincoln Day In La Harpe". The proclamation states:

"WHEREAS, The Historical and Genealogical Society of La Harpe, affirm that Abraham Lincoln, campaigning for the U.S. Senate in 1858, spoke here in La Harpe on October 23, and

WHEREAS, October 23, 2019, anniversary of this occasion.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Katherine Hasten-Reed, Mayor of La Harpe do proclaim October 23, 2019, and yearly thereafter, as "LINCOLN DAY IN LA HARPE" in the City of La Harpe, Illinois

Megan Crook, IMEG Engineering rep, informed the council as to the progress of the water project stating that the water plant building had inside walls painted and doors should be put in place by the end of the month. Crook said the new water mains are all in and hooked up and the old mains have been abandoned, the lift station is in, but not in service yet as they are waiting for some electrical updates for the sight. Crook said the water tower had been sandblasted inside and out and a primer coat has been put on all of it. Crook informed the council approximately 4 million dollars of the 7 million dollar project has now been spent.

The council approved an agreement with Ameren to upgrade electric service at the new Water Treatment Plant, Lift Station, and Well #3.

The council also approved accessibility, self-evaluation and transition plans for The Annex, the Community Center and City Hall.
