The 39th annual Illinois State Cornhusking contest will be held this Sunday Oct. 6th. It will be held 3 miles east of Smithshire and 3/4 miles to the south on 30th Street, on the west side of the road.
It starts at 9:00 A.M. with sign-in beginning at 8:00 A.M.. Sign-in requires a paid membership of $15 required for the adult classes, and $3 for youth classes, and no fee for the Pee Wee Contest contestants.
There will be 12 classes from youth to seniors that will qualify contestants for the National Contest near Gothenburg, Nebraska Oct. 19-20.
Each national class will be 10 minutes in length at the Illinois State Contest.
There is an amateur contest with details available when you arrive Sunday. There is no charge for spectators to come and watch this fun and historic way of picking corn.
Pre-register as there's a limited amount of corn rows.
If the event is canceled due to rain, it will be held the following Sunday, Oct. 13th.
