Greetings ta ever one in western Illinois and all readers of "The Quill".
Not much field work going on with all this rain. However, last weekend was shore good enough with plenty of sunshine and all the spring growth that's taken place.
The Barn Swallows and Purple Martins showed up on our farm the same day (Sunday, May 5). There's plenty of mud fer the swallows ta make their nests in the barn. A door is kept open ta the barn ta allow them entry fer nest'n.
The Purple Martins were fly'n high last Sunday. I don't know if'n they were find'n insects way up there or maybe they was given the sparrows fair warn'n ta get outa their way cause they're come'n home.
It's shore fun listen'n ta all the various birds given their mate'n calls and marke'n out their territory. Ya can't beat spring fer all that go'n on.
