At the Wednesday, April 17, 2019 West Central C.U.S.D. #235 Board of Education discussion was held on two calendar options presented by Superintendent Markey.
The board discussed proposed student fees for 2019-2020. All fees would remain the same with the exception of lunch prices. It was proposed to possibly increase lunch prices by $.10 as a result of a possible mandate to do so. The district is waiting for the calculation tool to become available to determine if this will be necessary.
The board was presented with and discussed proposed FFA Trapshooting/Archery Competition guidelines.
The board discussed the continuation of selecting Student Representatives to the Board of Education. It was decided to proceed with this process and to select two representatives for the 2019-2020 school year from those that apply. The board directed Superintendent Markey to prepare and disseminate the applications.
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary School cafeteria by Board President Jodi Arnold with all board members present at roll call. President Arnold led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Congratulations given to the Regional Office of Education #33 Excellence in Education Award recipients: Jessica Burrell, Amy Olson, and Belinda Atlogic!
Congratulations given to the OSF Nutrition Poster Contest Winners: Liam Sullivan, Maci Murray, Wyatt Goff, Hayli Strange, Zari McCraw, Ayva Hicks, and Makayla Bennett.
" West Central Middle School will be starting Therapeutic Thursdays where teachers are invited to participate in the Physical Education classes during their prep periods. This will provide the teachers with an opportunity to get some physical activity while bonding with students outside of their classes.
West Central Middle School has also started to allow students who arrive to school early to do some physical activity. Previously the students were required to sit in the bleachers.
West Central faculty, staff, and students did a fantastic job during the first two days of IAR testing.
We have new Guests and Home signs in the gym that Alyssa made that replace the paper ones.
The 8th grade boys won their first track meet and Kaiden Droste broke two 8th grade track records in the 100 and 400.
The West Central Middle School play will be May 2-4.
West Central High School students and staff assisted the Oquawka Township with sandbagging on Friday, April 5. Students and staff filled over 2,000 sandbags.
The West Central High School play, Beauty and the Beast was phenomenal and well attended! We have some very talented individuals at West Central.
Ebony Thompson broke the school record in the Discus with 97' 7½ and Shot Put with 35' in a recent track meet.
Sadie Lenz broke the school record in Triple Jump with 34 10 in a recent track meet.
The middle school Harry Potter Club competed in a Quidditch match with students from Monmouth College.

The board heard electronic and oral presentations from the WCES, WCMS, and WCHS School Improvement Teams regarding their proposed School Improvement Plans.
Each member of the board was presented with the book The Art of Boardmanship by Jim Burgett as a resource and discussed scheduling a special board meeting for the purpose of board training with Mr. Burgett called Boardmanship 101. 101.
The board directed Superintendent Markey to gather additional information about this training.
The board reviewed and heard reports from the building principals; Shane Tucker, Athletic Director; Melinda Frakes, District Technology Coordinator; and Shaila Ayer, District Psychologist and Special Education Director.
West Central will be hosting Softball Regionals.
The board approved a resolution proclaiming May 6-10, 2019 as National Teacher Appreciation Week and May 7, 2019 as National Teacher Appreciation Day.

received one bid for the elementary restroom project. As a result, the board tabled approval of the elementary restroom bid from Hein Construction Co., Inc. This project will be put on hold, and the district will put out another request for bids at a later date.
approved the request of two students to attend half days during the 2019-2020 school year to take college courses.
approved the purchase of a 15 flex wing grooming mower from JCB.

The board exited Closed Session at 9:40 p.m.

accepted the intent to retire of Joni Alecock as District Cook as presented and with thanks for her service to the district,
accepted the resignation of Leigh Erlandson as an Art teacher as presented and with thanks for her service to the district,
accepted the resignation of Debra Paulus as a part-time cook as presented and with thanks for her service to the district,
approved the employment of Rhonna Hand as an Elementary teacher as presented pending completion of all pre-employment requirements,
approved the employment of Bobby Allaman as a part-time, temporary Special Education Associate for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year pending completion of all pre-employment requirements,
approved the employment of Ben Alexander as a WCHS Science teacher as presented pending completion of all pre-employment requirements.

The board was reminded that the next regularly scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central Elementary cafeteria. The board will hold a Board Reorganization meeting on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in the West Central Elementary cafeteria.
