"Where Are They Now?"

by Becky Smith, The Quill

Keeping Up With The Jones - Part 1 - This is a series of the whereabouts of the children of the late Frank and Analu Jones. The ten Jones siblings, including a set of triplets, grew up on their family farm near Terre Haute, IL. Stay tuned the next few weeks as we continue sharing their stories. Part I

JAN JONES-TURNER

Jan is the oldest of the Jones children and was a 1969 graduate of La Harpe High School and states "Best class ever!"

Jan is married to Richard Turner and they reside in Vero Beach, Florida. She is a retired Landscape Maintenance Engineer. Jan enjoys traveling to flower exhibitions where her husband, Richard, competes with his award winning bonsai trees.

They have two children, Jonathan and Jordan Turner, both of Vero Beach. Jonathan and Elsabeth have a daughter, Janie. Jordan is engaged to Jordan Hyde and a November wedding is planned. Richard, Jonathan, and Jordan now run the landscape business.

JAY JONES

Jay is the second oldest of the Jones kids and resides in La Harpe with his wife, Cathy. They have been married 45 years and are the proud parents of three sons. Jackson and his son Drake, 8, live in Chicago. Jesse and Renae have two sons Jerex, 7, and Jaxton, 5, and they live in Boulder, Colorado. Jensen and Meghan have two daughters Jenna, 21 months, and Maggie, 5 months. They live in St. Louis, Mo.

Jay graduated from La Harpe High School in 1971 and Illinois State University in 1976, and then taught for several years before entering the insurance world.

Jay is the owner of Jones Insurance Agency and he is going on his 38th year in the insurance business. Needless to say, he has seen a lot of changes in the industry.

Some of his favorite past times were coaching summer ball and coaching Thunder football. "As you grow older your hobbies change. We like traveling especially to see grandkids and just hang out with them. We also like to garden, do yard work, go to flea markets and antiquing."

"One of my favorite childhood memories would be my days attending Terre Haute grade school with great classmates and great teachers. My first and second grade teacher was Mrs. Hazel Reed who was a great lady and teacher (plus she is the answer to a lot of my security password questions). I wouldn't trade growing up in the country with nine siblings, going to Terre Haute grade school, Terre Haute Jr. High, and La Harpe High School for anything. Those were great times with great people!"

"Most influential people would be my late parents Frank and Analu Jones and my Grandma Bessie Painter, coaches Jan Logan, Mike Graville, and Gerry Hart."

JAMES (Jim) JONES

Jim graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1972 and is a lifelong resident of the LaHarpe area. After graduation he farmed until 1978. He was hired by UPS in Galesburg, Illinois and delivered packages for them for 29 years retiring in 2007.

Jim married Cindy (Little) in 1975 and they have 2 children- Michael and Jaime. Cindy taught in the La Harpe school district for 18 years, retiring in 2012.

Michael is married to Miranda (Edler) and they have 2 boys and live in Macomb. Duncan is 3 years old and Duke is 1 year old. Michael is the assistant athletic director at WIU and Miranda owns and runs a daycare.

Jaime married Mike Goin and they live in Chatham, Illinois. They are both teachers in the Chatham school district and just had twin boys in October. Monroe and Clinton are now 4 months old.

Cindy and Jim both enjoy working in their yard, antiquing, traveling, and spoiling grandchildren.

One memory that Jim has is his mom raising 10 children. Jim remembers challenges when just raising their two children, but to have triplets and cloth diapers and glass bottles and laundry etc. he can't imagine the balancing act that went on every day.

Jim says the people that influenced him the most growing up were Judy and Larry Hobby and Bev and Lonnie Furrow. He was shown Christ's love through them and, because of their example; Jim is a Christian and states that God has blessed him and his family.

One unique thing about him is he is both left and right handed. Mrs. Reed, his 1st grade teacher, tried very hard to switch him from being left handed. She succeeded in making him write right-handed, but he had a left-handed ball glove, golfs left-handed, etc. Jim is proud of all of his brothers and sisters as they have all have done well with life choices and their careers. Jim credits that to the influence of his mother Analu Jones.
