Dallas City Celebration July 26-28

Dallas City becomes the center of activity on July 26 to 28 with the 11th annual Dallas City Celebration. The theme this year is "Remember When."

Events begin Friday evening with an alumni gathering on River Road by City Hall, starting at 6 p.m. Walking tacos will be served by Sunbeam Corner. Music by LMNOP runs from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday morning, July 27, the 7th annual River Road River Run/Walk starts at 7:45 a.m. at the Dallas City ball park, followed by a kids race. Early registration for the run is Friday, July 26, at the City Hall building, from 6 to 7 p.m. or sign up on Saturday morning before the race from 7 to 7:30 a.m. Registration forms are available now at Circle K or Casey's in Dallas City, or register online at getmeregistered.com and type in 5K River Road River Run.

Proceeds from this run will go to the Dallas City Summer Ball Association and the Dallas City Christmas for Kids.

As the fun run ends, the parade line-up begins at the tennis courts (east 4th Street), starting at 8:30 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. It is open to all kinds of groups, families and individuals, school groups, reunions, sports teams, churches, businesses, bands, local celebrities and politicians and other groups. This year's parade grand marshal is "everyone's favorite teacher," Gloria Trout. At 11:00 a.m. after the parade, the Riverview Sportsmen will hold kids games at the tennis courts, along with face painting and Nauvoo on the Road activities.

The Dallas City Boy Scout Troop #51 will hold a pork sandwich lunch at the former senior citizens building from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The meal includes pork sandwiches, hamburgers or hot dogs with potato salad, beans and a drink for a donation.

A disc golf doubles tournament will be presented by the Dallas City Disc Golf League and the Dallas City Bulldogs Sports Boosters at the elementary school. Sign-up is at noon with tee off at 1 p.m.

Entry for those under 16 is free. Registration fee for those 16 and older is $10 per person. Bring a partner, or sign-up and be placed on a team.

Saturday evening ends with a fish and chicken fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for a suggested donation of $8 at the tent on River Road by city hall. Music will be provided by Bocephus from 7 to 11 p.m.

Sunday begins with the ABATE pancake breakfast/Bloody Mary bar at River Road by city hall. Music continues at the tent with Bluezillion from 2 to 6 p.m. Lemonade shake-ups will be available. Around 6 p.m. the annual duck races begin with the exact location to be announced.

The Christian Music Festival will be Sunday, July 28, from noon to 5 p.m. at Grace Bible Church, 2880 North State Highway 9, just south of Dallas City.

Everything is free including sandwiches starting at noon, bounce houses, rock climbing wall (must be 16 years or older), kid crafts, cotton candy, snow cones and prizes including four 32-inch televisions.

Music will be provided all afternoon by local praise bands and performers including Delavan, Overcometh, Corban, Carlos Rutz Captives Set Free and more. Other musicians interested in participating should call Jim Melton at 217-852-3738.
