La Harpe 4th of July Festivities

by Becky Smith, The Quill

Independence Day was a busy day in La Harpe with several events taking place and ending with another fabulous fireworks display.

The day began with a delicious breakfast of eggs, meat, pancakes, biscuits and sausage gravy, coffee and juice served at the La Harpe Park District Community Club House by members of the La Harpe Fire Protection District.

It followed with several morning activities previously part of Summerfest.

A kid's block race was hosted by Fortress Bank and a kid's pedal tractor pull was sponsored by Alfred and Rex Huston.

Volunteers organized a water balloon/egg toss game which was enjoyed by the kids and adults as well.

To take a break from the heat, the pool opened at 12:00 noon with Free admission for the day. Many enjoyed cooling off before the evening events.

Inflatable bounce houses were again sponsored by the "Love La Harpe" and "Food for Thoughts" organizations. A water slide added this year was a big hit.

Turkey calling and children's raffles were held on the football field sponsored by NWTF Full Strut Chapter, Lomax, IL.

The La Harpe Lions Club served yummy grilled pork chop sandwiches while the American Legion Auxiliary served scrumptous pies and ice cream.

A large crowd attended the firework display which, once again, was phenomenal.

La Harpe residents and visitors are extremely pleased to have fireworks brought back to town and appreciate all those that helped make the July 4th festivities an enjoyable day for all.

The events are a chance to gather with community and old friends as you bring your lawnchairs and blankets and watch the event.
