Bobby Tapscott, Director of Oak Wood Estates Retirement Village and her staff had everything "Spic-and-Span" Sunday for their Open House of their new addition to their facility. Despite the cold and strong winds, many came to see the new addition who had been waiting since its groundbreaking in June of 2017.
Diana Doran and the board of directors are to be commended for always keeping the older facility in as good of shape as the new.
From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, the delicious hot soups, chicken salad and ham salad sandwiches, the iced sugar cookies and Peyton Jack's homemade pies were more than well received.
But of course, the assisted living was show-casing not only their comfortable environment, good food, prompt and friendly service, but their new beautiful addition giving more opportunity for those who have been on the long waiting list to have a safe and home-like place to live.
Comments were, "It's so beautiful", "spacious", "love the wood floors", "love the large windows", "look how easy the closet doors slide", "what a long hallway", "will there be more parking?", and "I like the door out to the patio and "really like the galley kitchens", "love the dark wood doors!" and "really like the game room and patio and all the windows and kitchen."
Residents say, you won't find anyone more accommodating than Bobbi Tapscott who began as an aide in 1996 and became the first administrator at Oak Wood Estates in 2009. She definitely has been there to serve and make you comfortable, and her great attitude carrys over to the staff.
At 7:30 p.m. when I stopped back in, it seems all the residents had gone to their rooms after a nice busy day of extra visitors.
The new wing has 10 additional resident rooms, 6 doubles and 4 singles, a game room, an enclosed patio and a beauty shop. The wing has been named "The Ralph and Darlene Tatge Wing" as Ralph has served on the board since 1995 and given countless hours to the Henderson County Retirement Center and was the initial push for the new addition. Board members are David Gerst, Nancy Stevenson, Mary Reed, Jayne Richey Olson, Bobbi Tapscott, Wendy Noble, Diana Doran, Judy Roessler, Ralph Tatge, and Tom Pullen.
