By: Mike Rodeffer- The Quill

Both the city audit, and the city employees' Christmas bonuses were approved at the La Harpe City Council regular meeting on Monday, December 9th.

Kathy Shupe with Arnold, Behrens, Nesbit, Gray, P.C. accounting firm from Quincy explained the city audit to the full council, then the council unanimously approved the city audit.

The council approved Christmas bonuses of $200 for full-time employees and $100 for part-time employees.

The council again discussed the area of the cemetery which has been mowed and baled for hay.

The council decided to put this up for bids with the terms of the contract and length of contract to be decided at their January meeting.

Also, the cemetery mowing contract will need to be bid on. The cemetery mowing contract in the past has been for a two year period and it was suggested to have the hay baling be a two-year contract as well. Final details will be provided at the January meeting.

The council approved the low bid of $2,183.00 for a new garage door and opener at the City Hall from Southeast Iowa Garage Door Specialists.

Megan Crook, representative of IMEG Engineering, updated the council on the ongoing water project. Crook stated the water plant building on Main Street should have heat in it by Christmas. Crook said reverse osmosis equipment should be here by mid-January.

Crook said the wells were basically done and pumps have been installed and the new lift station should be started up on Wednesday, December 11th. She said the water tower was functional, but the city name and legs have not been painted and would have to wait for spring time and warmer weather. Crook noted that the Rural Development Loan from USDA was to take place December 17th at 3:30 p.m. at city hall.

Lucretia McPeak said that she had purchased a new vacuum cleaner for $109.13 (previously approved by the board).

The council also approved:
