The La Harpe Elementary and Junior High School, along with the surrounding community, are mourning the sudden loss of their school's principal, Mrs. Lila McKeown.
Lila passed away unexpectedly late Tuesday evening, September 18, bringing shock and sadness to the school's staff and students on Wednesday morning.
Lila taught Science and Biology, for many years, in the La Harpe school district before taking the administrative position as principal.
She was dedicated to providing the best learning environment for the students as well as adding in some fun.
Lila would attend, and sometimes join in on various events held at the school. "Talk Like A Pirate Day" was last Wednesday, the day the students learned of her passing. Students recalled Mrs. McKeown having fun dressing as a pirate last year.
Lila has been referred to as principal, educator, mentor, family, and friend. She will truly be missed.
