Where Are They Now?

by Becky Smith, The Quill

Brian Keith Foster is a 1979 graduate of La Harpe High School.

He is the son of Sarah Alice (Louden) (Foster) Bender and Lee Foster. Alice is married to Gary Bender and they reside in Brandon, Vermont. Lee is married to Nancy Foster and they reside in La Harpe.

Brian has four brothers: Dr. Charles Foster and Roger Foster both of Brandon, Vermont; Colton Foster of La Harpe; Dr. Heath Foster of Springfield, Vermont; and a sister, Sierra Foster Antigiovanni, of Texas.

After high school, Brian attended Western Illinois University for two years then dropped out of college for a year and a half. After that, he moved to southern California and attended Pacific Christian College where he graduated with a Bachelor's in Church Growth and a minor in Youth Ministry.

While at Pacific Christian College, he worked at a church in the area, Knott Avenue Christian Church in Anaheim, California and worked with the middle schoolers. After several years there, he moved to another church in southern California and worked with middle school, high school, and college career young people.

Brian says "Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Youth Pastor I realized one day that I could not do that career forever, so I decided to go back to school and become a chiropractor.

Shortly after making that decision, I moved my bride, Michelle Everett Foster, and my infant daughter Molly to Davenport, Iowa to attend Palmer Chiropractic College. I graduated from Palmer in 1995 with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree on Friday the 13th of 1995, the centennial class.

I moved the next day to Longmont Colorado and I have lived here ever since. I owe the decision to go into chiropractic to my older brother Dr. Charles Foster, (also a Palmer grad of 1986). I am also proud of my younger half brother Dr. Heath Foster, and my two nieces, Dr Renee Foster Thompson, and Dr Taryn Foster Mason. (Yes Chiropractic is a family affair!)"

"Michelle and I have three kids. Molly Foster, our oldest, is 27 and engaged to be married next summer. She lives in Greeley Colorado and is a teacher at a Charter elementary school where they emphasize in teaching both Spanish and English and she teaches in both languages every other day.

Hannah Foster, our second, is 23 and lives with us and is planning on going back to school to become a nurse, but is currently working as a waitress in a couple of local restaurants. She has been working with special needs kids up until this semester and she is working hard to save up enough money to go back to school full time.

Caleb Foster, our youngest, is 22 and is in the United States Air Force. He is currently stationed at Travis Air Force base in northern California. He is training and working as a Hydraulic specialist to work on the Air Force's big heavy planes like the C-5 and the C-17. His ultimate goal is to go back to school and become a pilot and fly commercial airlines and private planes on the side.

Michelle, my wife of 31 years this year, has her bachelor's degree in education and used that degree for many years working with kids in numerous ways at the local schools and local churches. She currently is my chiropractic office manager and she guides our ship towards success every month."

"As of yet we do not have any grandchildren, but we are looking forward to the time when God blesses our family in that way."

"Michelle and I love to travel and we have been fortunate enough to see a lot of places in the U.S. and in Europe. We have hosted quite a few foreign exchange students in our home over the years and hope one day to see each of them in their home countries."

"One of the most influential people I remember, from La Harpe, was Mr. Don Corey the high school math teacher. His class was always challenging and I always admired his no nonsense approach, and looking back I recognize how much he loved kids and teaching.

I also learned a lot from Dr. Charles Foster, my older brother who challenged me and my thinking. He helped me believe that I could do and be more than I was, and that belief has carried me into a practice and profession that I love. I love chiropractic and have said many times that I will likely practice Chiropractic until the Lord takes me home or my body gives out trying.

I also admired Pop Sheffler who ran the Jack and Jill Grocery. He hired me and encouraged me and put a great deal of trust in me and gave me responsibilities beyond what a high school kid would normally do. His trust in me meant a lot to me back then, and I try to model that trust in others I work with even still today."

Brian says "I do miss La Harpe and the wonderful people there because, La Harpe reminds me of Mayberry and a simpler time, a kinder time, a more honest, less hurried, and gentler time in our nation's history."
