Veterans Day - a legal holiday in America! It was intended to give honor and recognition to those who have served in our military. But there is probably no other holiday that we ignore more than this one.
Yes, for those who have served or their loved ones it has special meaning. They understand the sacrifices of time and lives given for freedoms most of us take for granted. But many of us will not even take a moment to think of the cost of that freedom. We won't walk to thank a veteran. We won't fly the American flag. We will just enjoy our day.
Those who listen to the news - those who study what is currently going on in the world understand that freedom is becoming more costly each day. They understand that those who take it for granted have their heads in the sand. We, as citizens, need to unite in preserving what the veterans have given us. We certainly owe that to our children and grandchildren.
Take some quality time to talk with a Veteran. Not just on Veterans Day, but every day is a good day to do this. Listen to his story if he chooses to share. Look him in the eye, shake his hand, and thank him for what he has done for you and for our country. Then make a commitment to do something for our country - pray for the military, pray for our government - help the Legion Auxiliary with sending gifts to the soldiers or help in your own way and become involved in a positive way in the direction this country is going.
